What is Epaper?

Electronic paper (also known as electronic ink, or e-paper1), is a flexible medium display technique (paper, plastic), electronically modifiable, seeking to imitate the appearance of a printed sheet and which, like paper, does not require energy to leave a text or image displayed.
Unlike conventional display techniques that require backlighting or photon emission, electronic paper is purely reflective and uses ambient light in the same way as conventional paper. An electronic paper must be able to display text and images indefinitely, without consuming energy, whether for display or for a possible data processing system and must allow the change of what it displays. Most electronic papers consume energy only when the displayed content is changed. The pixels of such a system must, therefore, have several distinct stable states, so as to keep intact the content displayed in the absence of energy source.
Electronic paper has been developed to overcome some of the limitations of conventional computer screens. For example, the backlighting of some displays may be aggressive for the human eye, while the electronic paper reflects light just as a conventional paper sheet would. Thus, it is very easy to read on electronic paper, regardless of the angle from which one looks at it. In addition, the electronic paper is light, durable, and very flexible compared to other types of displays (but less flexible than paper).
The applications range from reading lights capable of storing digitized versions of many books, to posters for changing the decoration of a room, through electronic tags, industrial measurement or home automation. The dynamic cryptograms that secure recent credit cards also use this technology.
Do not confuse the electronic paper with the paper used in digital notebooks.
Do not confuse electronic paper with connected paper.
